Lhamo-Lhatso, Tibet's Oracle Lake

This trip is a combination
of an excursion to South Tibet, to Lhodrak Valley
that parallels the Tibet-Bhutan Himalayas and offers
striking views of the imposing Mt. Khula Kangri
(7554m). From Lhasa we travel to Nangkartse
over the Gampa-La pass, skirt the northern shore of
Yamdroktso Lake, continue on to the sacred lake of
Phurma Tso, and then arrive in Lhodrak. From
here we turn northwest through Tsomi County, past
Trigu Lake, where you may enjoy the company of
nomadic yak herders and take a dip in the hot springs,
to Tsetang. From
Tsetang we set out on our journey to Lhamo-Lhatso,
the key highlight of our trip, and an oracle lake, where
visions of the regents who pilgrimaged to its shore have
foretold the reincarnation of Dalai Lamas. |
