This tour constitutes a grand traverse of
East Tibet, crossing the the mighty river gorges of
Gyarong, Yalong,
Yangtze, Mekong, Salween and
Bramhapura. It encompasses the length and breath of
Kham, Derge, Chamdo, Tengchen, Bachen, Nagchu and Lhasa
districts, all areas very little known by Westerners. In
this itinerary we start our great overland adventure
from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.
After Ya-an, the flat eastern Tibet landscape
gives way to undulating foothills at Kangding,
the former capital of Chakla Kingdom and a tea
distribution center. We continue through Tawu to
Gerge, and up to and across Jape-la at an
elevation of 4,680 meters to
Chamdo, the gateway to Lhasa. |
