Village Orchestra Rehearsing, Sichuan Province, Western China

Passing through what clearly was a very small village, this one near Leshan, some 80 miles south of Chengdu in Sichuan Province, Western China, one gets a surprise passing by a house where a village orchestra practices. The atmosphere is relaxed but the players are very much focused on the piece played. They may be amateur musicians although it is evident they perform on many an occasion on stage. The traditional Chinese musical instruments give the sound its unique tone, and with the voices permeate the otherwise quiet and unassuming village surroundings with touch of grandeur.
