WESTERN SICHUAN TOUR
ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrive in Chendgu,
Sichuan province
On arrival you are greeted and
transferred to the hotel to
check in.
Day 2: Chengdu /Kangding (B-L-D;
330 km, 6-7 hours)

Depart Chengdu in the morning to
embark on the approximately six
hour drive to Kangding. Thanks
to the Erlang Shan Tunnel
through the “Two-Wolf
Mountain,”driving time has been
substantially reduced to a
manageable length of time.
Before the tunnel was
constructed it took two days to
reach Kanding.
On the way stop to visit the
Luding Bridge, an iron chain
structure built during the Qing
dynasty.
Arrive in Kangding(2500 meters
above sea level) by early
afternoon. In the past, Kangding
was an important stop on the
prominent trade route to Lhasa.
Tachienlu, as the town was known
prior to 1949, was the entry
point for tea caravans passing
through the region. It also
served as the capital of the
former Chakla Kingdom, which
grew to prominence as a result
of the trade route. Today
Kangding is a largely Chinese
town, but for those heading west
from China, it still serves as a
gateway to the Tibet’s wild
borderlands. Visit Anjue Temple,
belonging to the mysterious
Yellow Hat sect of Tibetan
Buddhism.
Day 3: Kangding / Xinduqiao
(B-L-D; 80 km, 3-4 hours)
After breakfast, drive to
Mugecuo Scenic Zone, meaning
"Wildman Sea" in Tibetan),
Covering an area of 500 square
kilometers, it consists of
Cuckoo Valley, Saimaping,
Seven-color Sea, Mugecuo and
Honghai Grassland. It is
regarded as the Minor Jiuzhai
for its thick forest, grassland
and snow mountain.
After lunch, move on to
Xinduqiao. En route, visit Ganzi
Cultural Heritage Museum. Then
arrive in Xinduqiao (3300 meters
above sea level), an upland town
along Sichuan-Tibet Highway,
known as Photographer's Paradise
for its special lights,
undulating mountains,
magnificent cloudscapes, Tibetan
farms and meandering rivers.
Day 4: Xinduoqiao / Tagong /
Bamei/ Danba (B-L-D; 160 km, 5-6
hours)

This morning, drive to Danba. On
the way, stop to visit Tagong
Grassland and Tagong Monastery
where Princess Wenchuan, on her
way to Lhasa to wed King
Songtsen Gampo, left the now
famous Jowo Sakyamuni statue.
The Jowo Sakyamuni now resides
in the Jokhang in Lhasa, where
it is considered the most
revered object in all of Tibet.
A copy of the original may still
be found inside Tagong
Monastery.
At Bamei, see the local stone
forest, a typical example of
karsts topography. Then enter
the Natural Bonsai Danba Dongyi
Galley before afternoon arrival
at Danba.
Day 5: Danba / Rilong (B-L-D;
160 km, 3 hours)

Visit sky towering thousand-year
old Diao Tower, Dadu River
valley, sample the folklore of
the local Kangba Tibetans.
Explore the China Tours 2012
of the Jiarong
Tibetans. Drive from Xiaojin
Couty to Rilong County (3400m)
at the foot of Siguniang
Mountain.
Day 6: Rilong / Moxi(Hailuogou)
(B, L, D; 320 km, 7-8 hours)
Today, drive to Moxi. On the
way, stop at Danba to visit
Suopo village, famous for the
local watchtowers and unique
local Tibetan fortress-like
houses.
Early afternoon arrive at
Hailugou Valley and check into
your hotel. The Hailuogou Valley
lies at the foot of the Gongga
Mountain known for its
impressive glacier that oozes
down from the high and steep
valley, its tongue pierced by
ice holes and crowned by
magnificant ice bridges that
give it a feel of a crystal
palace.
Last explore the old town of
Moxi, discovering the life of
the local people.
Day 7: Hailuogou (B, L, D)
In the morning drive to
Hailuogou National Glacier
Forest Park, then take the cable
car at the foot of the glaciers
to the top of the sightseeing
area.
After the tour, continue on to
the No.2 Camp where you can
indulge yourself in a natural
hot spring. Overnight in Moxi.
Day 8: Hailuogou / Chengdu

This morning, drive back to
Chengdu. En route, tour
Bifengxia National Park, one of
the best places in China to see
China's most endearing
residents, the panda. Spend the
night in Chengdu or depart to
your next destination.
